Open call artist in residence

The Käte Hamburger Research Centre “Dis:connectivity in processes of globalisation” (global dis:connect) at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) invites applications for two six months artist residencies (starting date either between 1 September and 1 October 2026 or between 1 March and 1 April 2027).

global dis:connect explores from transdisciplinary perspectives the interdependent, complex relationship between global interconnectedness, disconnectedness and disentanglement in historical and contemporary globalisation processes.

The work of the artist fellows should have a clear connection to the general goals of the Käte Hamburger Research Centre and deal with at least one of its guiding topics.

WORKS MAY ADDRESS…

  • the significance of different forms of dis:connectivity such as interruptions, absences or detours
  • laboratories of dis:connectivity in which the tensions between global connections and disconnections manifest themselves
  • cultural infrastructures and their dis:connective role in globalisation
  • temporal dis:connectivities in the context of globalisation

PARTICIPATION IN AND CONTRIBUTION TO THE CENTRE

During your time as a fellow at global dis:connect, you will be expected to concentrate on your project. Residence in Munich is required. You will actively participate in the events of the centre, such as the regular colloquia or the interdisciplinary reading group of the fellows, which play a central role in the exchange at the centre.

You are also expected to communicate your results on one of our communication outlets. Furthermore, there is the possibility to organise an event on an overarching topic during your stay, e.g. in cooperation with our partnerinstitutions in the city of Munich.

RESIDENCY PROGRAMME

  • A six months residency (starting date either between 1 September and 1 October 2026 or between 1 March/ 1 April 2027)
  • Fellowships are paid as an individually calculated monthly stipend.
  • The costs for the return journey (economy) to Munich will be reimbursed.
  • Please note that the centre cannot cover living or accommodation costs beyond the compensations indicated above.
  • A workspace in a shared office in central Munich (Maria-Theresia-Str. 21)
  • Opportunities to engage with artists, curators, academics and to participate in external events.
  • The artist selected will have the opportunity to publicly present the artwork or outcomes of the residency.
  • If applicable a monthly allowance for production costs. But please note that the artist may need to obtain further third-party funding to cover the production costs of the final artwork.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • A creative professional working primarily with visual/performative media (artists, filmmakers, designers, etc.)
  • Interest in the research field of the Centre
  • Proficient in English
